陈烈母者,东莞人,宋幼帝驻跸崖山,母命其子李佳应诏。既行,烈母亦趋广州,至黄木湾自沉死。佳赴行在,得潮州教授而还,哀陨莫及,乃筑望慈台于乌沙之阳,朝夕哭奠,闻者伤之。东莞陈琏为辞,有云:“南海有烈妇,能执陵母节。泪血满衣裾,泣与爱子别。尔尽忠兮大崖山,吾尽节兮黄木湾。茫茫此恨同精卫,一堕沧溟不复还。”

The Mother of Chen Lie (although the title is "Mother of Chen Lie," the text states her son's name was Li Jia) was a native of Dongguan, Guangdong. During the final years of the Southern Song Dynasty, when the young Emperor Zhao Bing stationed his court at Yamen (Yaishan), the mother ordered her son, Li Jia, to answer the emperor's call to service (to protect the emperor). After her son departed, this resolute mother also hurried to Guangzhou, reached Huangmu Wan (Yellow Wood Bay, now in Nansha District, Guangzhou), and drowned herself.

Li Jia arrived at the emperor's temporary court (the traveling court at Yamen) and was appointed Professor of Chaozhou before returning. Upon learning of his mother's death, he was overcome with grief and profound regret. He then built a platform named "Wàng Cí Tái" (Platform for Gazing upon Mother's Kindness) south of Wusha (a place in Dongguan), where he mourned and made offerings to his mother morning and evening. Those who heard of this were deeply saddened.

Chen Lian, also from Dongguan, wrote a eulogy for her, which included the lines: "In Nanhai (the region), there was a resolute woman, / Capable of upholding the virtue of an exemplary ancient mother (Ling Mu). / Tears of blood soaked her robe, / As she wept parting from her beloved son. / (As if saying:) 'You fulfill your loyalty at great Yamen, / I fulfill my integrity at Huangmu Wan.' / This boundless sorrow is like the Jingwei bird's (persistent grief), / Once fallen into the vast ocean, never to return."
