  广州东有石砺山,在潖洲之下,虎门之上,高数十丈,广袤数百顷。其势自大庾而来,一路崇冈叠嶂以千数,如子母瓜瓞,累累相连。人村大者千家,小者数百。自广州治至茭塘,大岭凡百余里,皆在瓜蔓之中,互相钩带,或远或近,或合或离,血脉一一相贯,以受地灵蜿蜒磅礴之气。山至虎门,则耸为大兽者五,以收海口而控下关。有一浮莲塔,上矗云霄,与赤冈、潖洲二塔东西相望,为牂牁大洋之捍门,南越封疆之华表,盖一郡风水之所系焉者也。比者奸徒盗石,群千数人于其中,日夜锤凿不息。下至三泉,中訇千穴,地脉为之中绝,山气为之不流。一峰之肌肤已剥,一洞之骨髓复穷,土衰火死,水泉渐焦,无以兴云吐雨、滋润万物而发育人民。此愚公之徙太行而山神震惧,秦皇之穿马鞍而山鬼号哭者也。崇祯间,尝勤有司之禁,所以为天南培植形势,其意良厚。今宜复行封禁,毋使山崩川竭,祸生灾沴,是吾桑梓之大幸也。

广州东面有座石砺山,位于潖洲下游、虎门上游,高几十丈,面积广达数百顷。它的山势从大庾岭延伸而来,一路上崇山峻岭数以千计,如同瓜藤上结的大小瓜果,连绵不绝。沿途的村庄大的有上千户人家,小的也有几百户。从广州城到茭塘,这百余里的大岭山脉都像在这瓜藤上一样,互相连接缠绕,时远时近,时合时离,如同血脉般一一贯通,承受着大地灵秀、蜿蜒磅礴的气势。山脉延伸到虎门时,便耸立起五座如同巨兽的山峰,用来扼守珠江口并控制下游关隘。山上有一座浮莲塔,高耸入云,与东面的赤岗塔、潖洲塔遥遥相望,是浩瀚南海(牂牁大洋)的守卫门户,也是南粤疆域的标志性建筑(华表),实在是关系到整个广州府风水命脉的地方。近来有不法之徒盗采石头,成百上千人聚集在山中,日夜不停地锤打凿取。开采深度直达地下泉水之处,山体内部被凿出成千上万的洞穴,导致地脉因此被截断,山川的灵气也因此无法流转。一座山峰的表层已被剥尽,一个山洞的深处也已被挖空,(象征地气的)土元素衰竭,(象征阳气的)火元素寂灭,泉水也渐渐枯竭,(山)无法再兴云降雨、滋养万物、福泽百姓了。这就是像愚公移走太行山,山神都为之震动恐惧;秦始皇凿穿马鞍山,山中鬼神都为此号哭一样啊。明朝崇祯年间,曾经大力执行官府的禁令,这是为了给南粤大地培养维护好的风水形势,用意是十分深远的。如今应该重新实行封山禁采,不要让山崩河枯、灾祸发生,这才是我们家乡的莫大幸运啊。

Prohibiting the Quarrying of Shili Mountain.

To the east of Guangzhou lies Shili Mountain, located downstream from Pazhou and upstream from Humen. It stands tens of zhang high and covers several hundred qing in area. Its range extends from the Dayu Mountains, featuring thousands of continuous high ridges and overlapping peaks, like large and small melons hanging together on a vine. Villages along the way house thousands of families in larger ones and hundreds in smaller ones. From Guangzhou city to Jiaotang, this mountain range, spanning over a hundred li, is interconnected like the tendrils of a melon vine, sometimes distant, sometimes near, sometimes merging, sometimes separating. They are linked like blood vessels, receiving the sinuous and majestic spiritual energy of the earth. Where the mountains reach Humen, five peaks rise like giant beasts, guarding the estuary and controlling the lower pass. On the mountain stands the Floating Lotus Pagoda, soaring into the clouds, facing the Chigang and Pazhou pagodas to the east and west. It serves as a protective gate to the vast South China Sea (Zangke Ocean) and a symbolic pillar (huabiao) for the Nanyue (Guangdong) territory; indeed, the Feng Shui fortune of the entire prefecture depends on it. Recently, lawless individuals have been stealing stone, with thousands gathering there, hammering and chiseling day and night without rest. They have dug down to the springs, creating thousands of hollows within the mountain, severing the earth's geomantic veins (dimai) and blocking the flow of mountain qi (shanqi). The "skin" of one peak has been stripped, and the "marrow" of one cave exhausted. The earth element weakens, the fire element dies, and the springs gradually dry up. The mountain can no longer generate clouds and rain, nourish all things, or foster the people. This is akin to Yugong moving the Taihang Mountains, causing the mountain gods to tremble in fear, or Emperor Qin Shi Huang cutting through Ma'an Mountain, making the mountain spirits weep. During the Chongzhen reign of the Ming Dynasty, the official ban was diligently enforced to cultivate and protect the geomantic configuration (fengshui xingshi) of the southern lands, a well-intentioned effort. Now, the ban should be reinstated to prevent mountain collapses and river depletion, and to avert disasters and calamities. This would be the great fortune of our homeland.
